Companies That Care
With National Family Caregivers Month quickly approaching, we are gearing up to highlight the many and vast resources available to caregivers. Do you have a resource or company to share? Email us at marketing@lotsahelpinghands.com.

Sandwich Generation Caregivers
Last month we hosted a webinar dedicated to the Sandwich Generation featuring Sherri Snelling of the Caregiving Club. The Sandwich Generation is the generation of Americans caring for an aging parent while also raising their children – literally squeezed between caring for two generations simultaneously. When you’re juggling work, family and caring for others, it’s hard to remember to care for yourself.

Watch a recording of the webinar and learn the key challenges that Sandwich Generation caregivers face as well as creative solutions to these challenges.

Resources for Caregiver Support
From General Health to Patient Advocacy, Cancer and Alzheimer’s disease related resources, our Resource Directory offers a list of organizations that serve caregivers — in a variety of areas. We hope you find them helpful along your caregiving journey.

Dear Friend,

WELCOME TO LOTSA COMMUNITY WORKS

New this month:
We're almost halfway through October and we’re guessing you’ve already noticed the world has gone pink — and, for good reason. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and nearly everywhere you turn there are abundant signs that we’re all paying attention. From national television programming spotlighting NFL players in pink uniforms to your local grocery store inviting a donation upon check out, breast cancer is never far from our minds. Here at Lotsa, we’ve witnessed more than 250,000 volunteers participating in private Communities to help a friend or loved one who is coping with a breast cancer diagnosis – and the ensuing treatment regimen that often propels a family on an emotional journey and juggling act unlike any they have ever experienced.

We are privileged to witness many stories of inspiration: from the woman in remission who turned her own breast cancer diagnosis into the motivation to create an Open Community in order to give back to other people in her town battling cancer, to the young mother of three small children who was supported by a group of 100 friends as she underwent a second round of chemo treatment. The nationwide effects of breast cancer are devastating: according to Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, in 2012 more than 220,000 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. This month we honor those who are affected as well as those who come together to help. Take a look at some of the stories in our Story Project for more information about how Lotsa Communities help those caring for loved ones. And, if you know someone who is affected by breast cancer, consider reaching out and offering your help.

However you acknowledge breast cancer awareness, join us in saluting the families who have been affected by this disease and pass this on to others you love.

     From our Community to yours,

          Hal Chapel, Co-Founder & CEO

Lotsa Tips

We’re sharing tips for those coming together to organize help in Communities this fall. Remember, you can always visit our How it Works Page for ideas about how to get the most from your Lotsa Community web site.

Add Seasonal tasks — The leaves are falling and days are getting shorter. Think about adding some seasonal tasks such as raking leaves or prepping for winter to your Community’s Help Calendar.

Help with the Little Things — There’s a lot to be done in the fall. Ask a caregiver if you can help put out fall decorations, or pick up Halloween candy next time you’re out. It’s just a small thing, but it might be something your loved one, friend or neighbor forgot about with all that’s on their mind.

Plan Ahead — Though its only October, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas are right around the corner. It’s never too early to plan or schedule a weekend for decorating the house, or getting supplies (shovels and salt) ready for the winter weather.

If you have additional questions, contact us at info@lotsahelpinghands.com.
